Disability Pamphlet Project
When I have doctors appointments or meet with disability support providers, I am often handed pamphlets on various topics. Sometimes they explain what a service has to offer, sometimes they offer alternatives to the services, or they may just offer 'awareness'. The doctor or provider is often considered the expert in my disabilities, even if they have no knowledge of my experiences. What if I could be the expert in my disabilities? What information would I want doctors and providers to know about me? What if the expertise I have gained through my lived experience was just as valued?
The Disability Pamphlet Project is a series of zines that I created to explain basic disability concepts and my personal experiences of disability and neurodiversity. I created them to reflect on my experiences and to share the knowledge I have gained through my lived experience of disability.
Multiple formats for each zine are available. Under the heading for each zine is a link to a printable PDF, a word document version that is large print and an audio description.
You are welcome to download and print these zines for your own use. Share them with your friends! Or share them with a doctor/disability service provider to better explain your experiences.
